I just finished the short story in Alice Munro’s Dear Life titled To Reach Japan.

This story is about a woman feeling lost in the dark woods. It is about her accessing her boldness. It shows what can happen to one’s life when one feels eager to get themselves out of the way. Also the inner struggle of a woman shifting roles between being a wife, a mother, living an artist’s life and having a career / determined role in the world.

It ends with the unknown. As the author states earlier like putting our secrets/hopes in a bottle and hoping it will reach Japan.

“Just sit and consider.”
